At MCI, we align our Environmental Social Governance (ESG) plans with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals serve as an urgent call for action to people around the world to collaborate in a global partnership to enact strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and stimulate economic growth – all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our soil, waterways and forests for future generations. OUR SUSTAINABLE GROWER PROGRAMME
Sustainable Sourcing
MCI is launching an ambitious new ‘Sustainability Grower Programme’ in collaboration with our trusted barley growers. The programme focuses on five key components: Climate, Soil Health, Biodiversity, Water, and Livelihoods. It will be founded on regenerative principles to protect and enhance the natural environment.
MCI will decrease our Scope 3 Emissions by 30% by 2030 through our emissions reduction initiatives using sustainable practices in partnership with our partners Tirlán & Dairygold.

Our Teagasc Innovation Partnership and close working relationship with the Irish Seed Trade Association enables our malting experts to have vital input to developing seed varieties to meet our client needs and ensure supply chain resilience.
Our commitment to continuous improvement drives us to develop innovative processes that enhance quality, optimise efficiency, and reduce environmental impact. By staying at the forefront of industry advancements, we ensure our products consistently deliver exceptional performance for brewers and distillers worldwide.
SUSTAINABILITY
Managing Resources
Effective resource management is central to our sustainability strategy at The Malting Company of Ireland. Our goal is to reduce our environmental impact while maintaining the highest production standards. We offer Supply Chain Transparency built on strong certification.
Our resource management approach centres on three key areas:
Energy: By optimising energy-efficient processes and utilising renewable resources throughout our operations, we aim for a 40% reduction in on-site Scope 2 Emissions usage by 2030.
Waste: We are dedicated to minimising waste to landfill. We are working toward zero product waste by 2030 by adopting a circular approach.
Water: We are committed to reducing water usage. Through reuse and recycling processes, we are targeting a 35% reduction in water consumption by 2030.
Together, these initiatives reflect our commitment to sustainability and responsible resource management with an overall goal of Net Zero operations by 2045.
